About the Friends
Our Mission
The Friends of James River Park is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) organization created by a dedicated group of citizens in 1999. Our mission is to provide an ongoing source of citizen support for the conservation, enhancement, and enjoyment of the 550-acre James River Park System and its natural and historic environments.
In the words of park manager Ralph White, “The Friends of the James River Park is the brain trust for the future of Richmond’s urban wilderness.” That’s quite a compliment, but we also like to get our hands dirty and feet wet to help wherever needed.
So, if you would like to help keep the park clean and green, consider becoming a member of the Friends of James River Park.

Did you know?
The James River Park System is the most heavily visited park in Richmond, receiving well over 500,000 visitors a year – most of whom are not city residents. Yet, this public park is funded solely by the City of Richmond.
